Summary

Seven days to fall in love, fifteen years to forget and seven days to get it all back again。。。 From the author of The Perfect Find, this is a witty, romantic, and sexy-as-hell new novel of two writers and their second chance at love

Brooklynite Eva Mercy is a single mom and bestselling erotica writer, who is feeling pressed from all sides。 Shane Hall is a reclusive, enigmatic, award-winning literary author who, to everyone's surprise, shows up in New York。

When Shane and Eva meet unexpectedly at a literary event, sparks fly, raising not only their past buried traumas, but the eyebrows of New York's Black literati。 What no one knows is that twenty years earlier, teenage Eva and Shane spent one crazy, torrid week madly in love。 They may be pretending that everything is fine now, but they can't deny their chemistry-or the fact that they've been secretly writing to each other in their books ever since。

Over the next seven days in the middle of a steamy Brooklyn summer, Eva and Shane reconnect, but Eva's not sure how she can trust the man who broke her heart, and she needs to get him out of New York so that her life can return to normal。 But before Shane disappears again, there are a few questions she needs answered。 。 。

With its keen observations of Black life and the condition of modern motherhood, as well as the consequences of motherless-ness, Seven Days in June is by turns humorous, warm and deeply sensual。

3。5 stars。 Pretty good, but not good enough to keep me consistently engaged in the first half。 I actually would have loved to read more about Eva’s Creole ancestors and their stories。 I feel like this could have been an amazing story in the vein of Homegoing if Williams had committed a bit more to the characters。

Steamy read that picks up halway through。 Worth a read for the parts that are unique。 Really glad it has a prologue。

The book always kept me engaged and interested especially the backstory of the characters and their past。 But sometimes I was cringing a bit🫠

LOVEDD this book, black romance novels are a rarity and this one did not disappoint! Tia got it right, all the themes came together and weren't predictable。 Had me crying a couple time too LOVEDD this book, black romance novels are a rarity and this one did not disappoint! unfortunately the book lost me after the first 100 pages was not sold on their connection at all

Verging on 2。5 but I’ll give it a 3。 Started so strong but ended so poorly。 I loved the gritty, dark plot lines at the beginning that felt real but then it fell away to somewhat cliche/cheesy mush。 It’s also crammed with gen z slang that it read like someone far older trying to write from a young person’s perspective。

I think I wish the epilogue had been the entire book and the side plots had been the main plot and the main plot had been the side plot。 That or I just really wanna read the book Eva was researching/writing。 Not bad tho。3。5 Stars

Expected literary romance, indeed it wasn’t。 Still really fun tho

**TRIGGER WARNING FOR DRUG USE**A gripping story about what happens when ‘the one who got away’ unexpectedly returns。 Leads Eva and Shane are both well-developed individually but electric together—inside and outside of the open-door sex scenes。 The flashbacks and modern-day story were equally strong。 The Author’s discussion on race and class, expectations and creativity were nuanced and thought-provoking while her sensitivity in handling the topic of invisible disability was masterful。 4/5 stars **TRIGGER WARNING FOR DRUG USE**A gripping story about what happens when ‘the one who got away’ unexpectedly returns。 Leads Eva and Shane are both well-developed individually but electric together—inside and outside of the open-door sex scenes。 The flashbacks and modern-day story were equally strong。 The Author’s discussion on race and class, expectations and creativity were nuanced and thought-provoking while her sensitivity in handling the topic of invisible disability was masterful。 4/5 stars。 。。。more

3 ⭐️ second chance at love trope for Eva and Shane, two HS loves that fell apart and reunited 15 years later as writers who secretly have been writing about each other。 I can see the hype of this one, the writing style and likeable characters but i could not get into it。 🫣

It loses a star for a plot point right before the end that made me want to tear the book in half。 It was one of those completely unnecessary final conflicts that could have been easily solved。That aside, this book is magnificent!! Tia Williams is a natural storyteller and I come away from this book with the utmost admiration。 Her protagonists are very real and human, and that makes it ever more relatable。

My first second chance lover story and definitely not my last。 As a 20-something millennial the though it’s meeting up with my high school lover seems repulsive, but this story with these characters was riveting! I am excited to finally see a black novel that centers Boack intellectuals and Black nerds/geeks。

I should have read this book long ago because I absolutely adore this story。 “Stop writing about me。”“You first。”This book was so beautifully written, a love story of two people over 7 days at two different stages at their life。 Eva is an erotica author and single mother to a young daughter while battling a chronic illness。 Shane is a celebrated but reclusive literary author。 They meet once again at a literary event and reflect on their past traumas while reconnecting in present day。 This book i I should have read this book long ago because I absolutely adore this story。 “Stop writing about me。”“You first。”This book was so beautifully written, a love story of two people over 7 days at two different stages at their life。 Eva is an erotica author and single mother to a young daughter while battling a chronic illness。 Shane is a celebrated but reclusive literary author。 They meet once again at a literary event and reflect on their past traumas while reconnecting in present day。 This book is just so。 good。 The chemistry between Eva and Shane is fantastic but I love that there was so much more to the book as well。 Eva and her daughter Audre’s relationship is such a highlight for me, as the way they respect and adore one another is so beautiful (their banter is also hilarious)。 The way the author depicted Eva’s chronic migraine condition was also incredible as the pain just felt so honest and believable。 Eva and Shane’s relationship is so messy, flawed and riddled with angst but it’s so beautiful how the author weaves their lives together and how they reconnect as adults。 The other themes explored in this book are really thought provoking as well, as Williams writes about black authors experiences in the publishing industry (mentioning how often the publishing industry demands black authors to focus their stories around suffering and trauma) I went into this book not knowing much so it was definitely a little darker than I anticipated and touches on some important topics。 So, if you are considering reading this I would definitely look up content warnings first。 。。。more

While I LOVED the celebration of the black love, black joy, and black intelligence。。 I hated the amount and detail of self harm that was in this book。 One of the characters criticized authors who use suicide and self harm to build character depth in books, and ironically this book does that。The narrator of the audiobook was over dramatic and cheesy during the already likewise scenes which made it worse

“It never ends, does it?”

Another book to make me realise how poor my education is in some areas。A messed-up (and sometimes hot) love story that some of the time seemed to happen in a world parallel to mine。

I really enjoyed this book but wow, was it not at all what I was expecting。 From the way I had heard people fawn over this I was expecting a light, fluffy, and easy read that would make me smile。 I thought it would be feel good。 I was wholly unprepared for how dark, sad, and graphic the storyline of this book would actually end up being。 This, to me, definitely felt like more of a book with romance rather than a romance book。I liked the writing, though it did have its fair share of pop culture r I really enjoyed this book but wow, was it not at all what I was expecting。 From the way I had heard people fawn over this I was expecting a light, fluffy, and easy read that would make me smile。 I thought it would be feel good。 I was wholly unprepared for how dark, sad, and graphic the storyline of this book would actually end up being。 This, to me, definitely felt like more of a book with romance rather than a romance book。I liked the writing, though it did have its fair share of pop culture references they didn’t feel too overwhelming。 I will say that there is a 12 year old character in here who absolutely didn’t speak or act like a child in my opinion, so that took me out of the story massively。 For the most part though it was fine。 The pacing was pretty consistent, quite a slow building narrative。This book ended up being very thought provoking at various points throughout。 It talked a lot about class, race, self harm, alcoholism, parental neglect, child abuse, and drug abuse to name as many as I can think of。 It was HEAVY to read。 I think it took these discussions and handled them with grace, while doing them justice by portraying them honestly - no matter how difficult that was to stomach at times。 It also championed a protagonist with chronic illness, and how she has to battle with that and how she wants other people to view her。 It made for a story more complex than I could have predicted, with these two characters intertwined in a myriad of ways。 Despite this, it also had its funny and cute moments as I was promisedShane and Eva had amazing chemistry, and despite it being a second chance romance based on feeling developed over 7 days aged 17 (something I was very wary of) it worked and it felt very real。 Williams did an amazing job of showing us why these characters were so perfect for each other - their communication, patience and understanding was beautiful。 I liked following their past and present, both together and separately。 I also like how it managed to present us with small snippets of the lives of some side characters too, it was interesting。Overall a story that I really enjoyed。 Watching Eva and Shane grow together and try and heal from everything they’ve been through was heartwarming。 I really enjoyed it from start to finish。 。。。more

This book did keep my attention, but I did not find the romance very believable。 At times, I felt the writing sounded hokey。

A great love story that’s a big ‘will they or won’t they?’。 I loved how much detail and backstory there was— and that it was never in a slow, pretentious way。 The backstory was just as interesting as the main plot, although it was a little confusing early on to remember which was which。 I appreciated the author incorporating invisible disabilities into the book, while not making it preachy。 The writing was vibrant and easily created imagery。 I’d recommend it!
